Spirituality and Science

Do spirituality and science have to be contrary to each other? Regrettably, just defining either concept seems almost hopeless now and then. On the other hand, describing them is much easier, so let’s begin there.

Science isn’t system, but an approach to knowledge, a technique. Scientists will debate forever about the definition of science, but still agree it is the most valuable or productive technique of understanding the world. What are its necessary characteristics? They are objective observation, the deriving of principles and “laws”, and predictions grounded on these. (When it makes things, it is also technology.)

Science can be easily distinguished from religion by the truth that all of the knowledge it creates might be proven incorrect Religious “knowledge” is commonly sacred, and untouchable, while scientific knowledge is always being overthrown or fine-tuned by further application of science.

While religious belief is the foundation of religion, evidence is for science.

This explains why “creationist” science is not really science. A creationist “scientist” will not permit his religiously based beliefs to be disputed by new evidence. He will openly tell you that his “faith” is more significant to him than the evidence. He only uses the pretense of science to support his preconceptions. Many scientists, on the other hand, have reversed even their own theories, because the essence of science is to go where the evidence leads you.

Spirituality And Science merged

It seems that spirituality and science oppose one another, but this would only be true if all spirituality was grounded on faiths. Spirituality, though, can be seeking higher points of experience, asking the deepest questions, and seeking the true “self,” which in no way makes it opposed to science. As a matter of fact, since science is such a productive technique of finding new accuracies, it can be applied for spiritual exploration and discovery.

I a belief in God contrary to science? Not so long as it is established on experience instead of faith, and it is open to change. Spiritual systems of beliefs can be a handy method of organizing and using our knowledge and experience, like many additional scientific theories or paradigms. To be scientific, though, they must be open to change.

If prayer brings you serenity, why not pray? When the evidence indicates it to be a phenomenon requiring brain chemicals, why not accept that too? It is scientific spirituality, by the way, that has lead to the technology of brain wave entrainment. Now you will be able to buy CDs that give you the same spiritual experiences as religious meditators.

Being spiritual then, can mean forever looking for higher levels of experience, and looking for the solutions to the deepest questions. Science help in this quest. Since every answer raises even deeper questions, there is no extinguishment of spirituality by way of science. If spirituality is the pursuit, then science may be the most effective means of keeping on it.

Computer Science in College

In December 2009, the National Science Foundation (NSF) held the Computer Science Education Week, designated by the US House of Representatives “..in recognition of the transformative role of computing and necessity of rigorous computer science education at all levels.”The said event emphasized on the need to include more computer science courses for secondary level students, citing the foreseen demand for information technologists in the next several years; and that, while several of the employment opportunities will not require full degrees, “..all of them require a solid background in computer science.” (NSF, 2009).

Advancement in the computing science field will most definitely be heightened by seeking higher and continuing education. In fact, the popularity of computer science, along with other related programs, saw an increase in the last year throughout several colleges (Markoff, 2009); making it one of the most sought-after college majors in the US.

Generally defined, this field of study involves the examination of computing theories and their applications. Computer science majors delve into how computers operate, various programming languages, algorithms, operating systems, understanding the internet, website development, information systems, and many others.

Basic requirements for a computer science degree include at least 120 credit hours worth of various courses which include applied mathematics, natural and physical sciences, humanities, social science, and technical writing. Computer science students are prepared to be experts in the application of mathematical and computing principles in developing and implementing computer-based systems and software as well as conduct effective research on computing and other affiliated disciplines. The Association for Computing Machinery indicates several career options for computer science graduates, a few of which are:

* Software design and implementation
* Computer technology application
* Management of IT infrastructures for organizations

Other career options include network administration, website and web graphics design and development, and computing research. The average salaries for computer science and computer engineering graduates, ranked among the top-earning degrees in the country, are both pegged at USD 61,000 (Pepitone, 2009). Combining a computer science degree with other fields of study such as biology, engineering, psychology, forensics, journalism, advertising, business administration, and several other courses should make way for even more lucrative careers.

Attending any college will surely require huge costs and going for a Computer Science degree is no exception. There are, however, financial aid options available. The amount of scholarships and grants vary with each college and are awarded to qualified students. Application for federal student aid begins with accomplishing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form which is available online. A number of top corporations also offer undergraduate scholarships as well as future employment opportunities in their respective fields. For those seeking acceptance into graduate schools, rendering hours as research or teaching assistants may help supplement tuition costs. In recognizing the statistical decline of women in the field of computer science, the committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W) also lists fellowships for women who wish to further their computer science education .

Managing Science and Research

Managing science and research requires a unique skill set that are not the same as general management skills required for other types of businesses. General management theory is applicable to science and research management, but not sufficient to cater for the specific requirements of science and research management. For that purpose we assume in this article that the reader is already familiar with general management principles and approaches. Our focus here is to look at the specific requirements of science and research management.

An important aspect is understanding what would constitute good science and how to create an environment that would allow the knowledge generation aspect of science and research to flourish. Important aspects that differ from general management principles are:

Quality assurance often supersedes the process-focused approach in organization generally. Especially where the problems are not standard and therefore require unique approaches to be solved, it is very difficult to provide consistent quality assurance and performance indicators.
Science and research management requires a careful balance between investment and creating utility for current use. Unless a considerable effort is made to constantly invest in more capabilities and growth of existing capabilities, management of science and research finds itself over the medium term with an increasingly stale and unproductive scientific research capability. This requires a financial management approach that does not optimise for short term profit only, but also caters for the capability building of ongoing the investment.
The people performing the science and research work are usually a scarce commodity, and replacing them require considerable investment of both time and money. For this reason retention and ongoing development of existing experts needs to be a focus in the business model (this is true for all knowledge-intensive innovative environments).
The work environment need to enable innovative and creative work, and facilitate and value team work. The performance indicators for these are often difficult to define (they might even be intangible). But giving attention to them and getting them right for the specific type of science and research work is very important for a successful science and research capability.

In addition to all of this there is the aspect of “managing science where it happens”, namely to ensure the scientific work itself is of a good quality and make the best use of the available capabilities. Usually this is catered for by the various conventions that scientists and researchers of specific disciplines adhere to professionally.

However, the various sciences have a number of differences and commonalities that make maintaining the scientific rigour when work is done in more than one of the major branches of science very difficult. For this reasons many research capabilities either restrict themselves to only selected branches of science, or they retain the barriers between the various sciences and never really get to an integrated scientific capability that spans across the boundaries of the sciences. In the complex and highly connected societies we live in that is becoming an increasingly untenable situation. We need to be able to integrate the sciences to be able to provide relevant and useful new knowledge, utilising the best that science offers.

Using science in an integrated way unlocks most value in situations like this. We need to keep in mind that
All the sciences share a common goal to search for the “truth”, or “facts”, or “evidence. This common goal provides the background against which we are able to identify a number of similarities.
There are some legitimate differences between the sciences that we cannot remove by forcing one approach on all the branches of science.

Accomplishing this is not easy. However, there are two sets of features that are common to all branches of the sciences. They can be used in all branches of science to ensure that we are able to integrate our scientific work across the traditional branches of the sciences. They are

The scientific productiveness features: These are the features of science that facilitate its success in knowledge generation. Knowledge can be generated in a number of ways, but these science has illustrated over the centuries that where these features are present and used appropriately they facilitate a level of success that is not otherwise possible.
The Scientific Capability Features: These are the features that describe the way to go about knowledge generation utilising the scientific productivity features.

We have used these two for integrated scientific work in a number of cross-disciplinary applications (mostly to solve complex real life problems in strategic management decision making). They have proven themselves to add value in the rigor, quality and relevance of cross-disciplinary scientific work.

Developing Expertise Through The Acquisition Of Knowledge
This article presents experts in geoscience, geography, and astronomy using spatial thinking in the process of scientific discovery and explanation. To achieve insights, experts link varied data sources, use their knowledge of processes such as volcanism or evolution, and incorporate their understanding of principles such as thermal equilibrium or biodiversity. Successful researchers reorganize, combine, prioritize, compare, question, and discuss their ideas over extended periods. Experts develop proficiency in their fields over years and often find the methods they use to assess complex displays of data difficult to explain and, therefore, teach to others. Skilled programmers, for example, can inspect a 300-line program and rapidly identify bugs, whereas novices can look at the same 300 lines essentially forever without finding the problem.

Experts specialize in particular aspects of their field. They need time and experience not only to understand the representations used in new aspects of the field, but also to learn the domainspecific principles and ideas to interpret and critique this information. Experts reformulate representations of complex information such as plate movements or crystal configurations and engage in discipline-specific disputes about appropriate ways to reduce data to formats that are maximally open to inspection (cf. work on the human genome, molecular pathways, and electron microscope materials). Each year Science magazine recognizes researchers who create visualizations that are acclaimed by their peers (Bradford et al., 2003). To those outside a particular scientific domain, however, the representations can perplex and confuse as much as inform. Some representations, such as patterns of earthquakes superimposed on the outlines of continents, communicate information that would be difficult to capture in words, whereas others, such as the methods for representing the structure of crystals, can confuse even experts as well as nonexperts. Even ingenious representations, such as modem algebraic systems, have sometimes thwarted as well as hastened scientific discovery.

Experts in one application of spatial thinking, such as architecture, may not find those skills useful in another application of spatial thinking, such as interpreting weather maps, because the representations and their underlying scientific principles are different. Clement, for example, asked expert mathematicians to interpret visual displays of the behavior of springs varying in diameter and flexibility. The mathematicians behaved similarly to students encountering the material about springs for the first time. Lewis and Linn reported similar results when they asked expert chemists and physicists to explain everyday phenomena that exemplify principles that they understand well. One expert, for example, preferred aluminum foil over wool as an insulator because it is a common practice to wrap cold drinks in aluminum. Expertise is, therefore, domain specific. Expertise takes significant time to develop in depth. Learning things is not limited to the scentific area. Instead it also has relations with some other things like speaking a language or using software, including Rosetta Stone English and Rosetta Stone French. If you have a creative mind, you will make all your own differences in the end!

Educators often devise new representations to help novices. Tests of these representations in contexts as diverse as weather maps, molecular models, and the rock cycle have proven humbling. Students cannot readily interpret diagrams and representations, and when they attempt to use them, they often become more, rather than less confused. Students have interpreted representations of heat that use color intensity as implying that heat has mass, for example. Most commonly colored weather maps show only the predicted weather on land rather than showing the weather patterns as extending over the oceans. The maps also show weather only over the United States rather than extending into both Canada and Mexico. Such representations can deter students from thinking about the weather as large-scale, complex systems influenced by differential surface temperatures over land and water.

Knowledge Process Outsourcing

Knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) has become a very international and wide concept. These days you are able to find KPO in just about every business in the world. So what is KPO and what does this process involve? The process of knowledge process outsourcing involves the more educated and skilled workers. Or put another way you are producing knowledge with the materials that have been outsourced to these skilled employees.

Business Process Outsourcing Industry, especially KPO is being done all types of organizations from the small business owner to the large corporation. These companies have become more involved in Business Outsourcing. These days even individuals will outsource certain job functions in order to save money and time. One of the key resources that allows for the ease of such outsourcing is the internet, as this has made it easier for people to connect with outlets where they can get their tasks done for far cheaper than hiring someone locally. The thing that you need to know is that the main focus on quality and not on quantity for Outsourcing.

So what really is Knowledge Process Outsourcing?

A simple definition for KPO is the preparation of varying types of knowledge related products. One prime example is; student A has a thesis to write, this student however, lacks the time needed to spend on writing the entire paper, they can therefore outsource their paper (or parts of it) to free up some of their time. This is KPO as it is the production of information and knowledge. The important thing to note is that only an outsourcing professional who is skilled will be able to fulfill these duties. These professionals must already posses the specific skills and knowledge that is needed for the production of such materials.

Knowledge process outsourcing will have certain specific keywords attached to it. Take for example the following:

· Researching – this will generally incorporate the production of market research services and its arrangement. This also includes delivering outputs on the legal aspects of outsourcing.

· Providing – the necessary outputs relating to investment research service.

· Engaging – Producing patents and services related to research.

Now this may seem like it is an easy task and one might believe that knowledge process outsourcing is easier than regular outsourcing however, this is far from the case. According to an Outsourcing Survey, the reality is that engaging in KPO has its own set of unique challenges that the Small Business Services or individuals that chose to engage in KPO will face. Your task to making it work is to find ways to not fall victim to these challenges and obtain a great Outsource Data Entry for your work.

knowledge about currentaffairs

With the help of modern gadgets and inventions in both software sector, many conveniences, was donated to the life of an ordinary man to make messages relating to everyday life, no problems. With huge competition between different sources of media, each one of them trying to give the latest news in the first place than their competitors. Latest news will be presented in a way that they are made accessible to the majority of the public who do not have time to sit before the television or listen to the radio by the presence of separate blog or sites that remain on updating the latest timeliness.

Technology is also their impact on this issue on latest news, where a person is their mobile number in one of the trusted sites or blogs registry, that might place any actual news gets straight to their mobile instead of even taking the minutes effort of the surf on the Internet.

Even if that is not the problem and the user has confidence in one of the available sites would like to know the latest news, than most of today’s mobile devices to surf the Internet on the go, so the customer or audience may have a glance at the website latest news, while going to work, or during the little break without any need to subscribe to those annoying messages.

Top 10 Science Debates in History

It is the common sense for human that scientists are people with respectable manners, intelligent and creative brains. However, for all knowledge that people obtain today, scientists have to go through serious debates.

The Shapley – Curtis Debate in 1920

Simply known as “The Great Debate”, the 1920 debate of Shapley and Curtis was hosted by the Smithsonian Institution in a room full of people. Heber Curtis argued that the Milky Way galaxy was one of a number of galaxies while Harlow Shapley thought that Milky Way galaxy was the center of universe.

Whether the debate’s result went, both scientists were right about the nature of the universe.

Margaret Mead and Derek Freeman

The American cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead concluded that culture determined behavior not biology. Her depiction was based on her time in Samoan where young women enjoy freedom in love-making. However, Freeman, having also spent time in Samoan, reached different points of view.

What Derek Freeman did was to criticize Margaret Mead’s theory after her death.

Edison and Tesla

The argument between Edison and Tesla started over the theory alternating current or direct current would serve the needed power. The debate later broke out into a war of accusations. According to Edison, the alternating current was dangerous.

To prove the danger of Nikola Tesla\’s alternating current and safety of his competing direct current, Thomas Edison electrocuted a living elephant.

Newton and Leibniz: The Calculus Controversy

Newton and Leibniz all started working on the same calculus but in different approaches. However, mathematical community seemed to support Newton rather than Leibniz. Although Leibniz was accused of plagiarism, modern calculus is more like Leibniz\’s.

Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz were both fathers of calculus.

Cope and Marsh and “Bone Wars”

Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Marsh were both hunting dinosaurs and even hunting each other. The two had gone across North America to find fossils. During the exploitation, Marsh bribed Cope\’s digging crew to have all the new fossils of dinosaurs.

Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Marsh spent lots of time in their “the Bone Wars”

Galileo vs. the Church/ Pope Urban VIII

Back to the 17th century, Galileo Galilei defended the Copernican point of view that the Earth was the center of the solar system.

Galileo Galilei held the set that the sun was the center of the universe.

Education School Lapel Pins Promote Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

Schools around the country promote knowledge, skills, and expertise with their curriculum and extracurricular activities. This gives students a distinct advantage as they enter the workforce because they are well-equipped to handle whatever life chooses to throw at them. Because they possess what they need intellectually, they are able to advance in their professions and chosen activities.

Custom Lapel Pins As Incentives For Learning

Small incentives in the form of academic lapel pins help encourage pupils to be their personal best. In addition to instilling a sense of pride in its recipient, school lapel pins identify leaders. They also encourage others to follow suit. For example, when one student is recognized for his or her achievements and given a lapel pin, other students will undoubtedly want one of their own as well.

This is music to the ears of educators because they see leaders being born in their classrooms. That’s because the students are willing to take the steps necessary to receive their own achievement award. It’s a win-win situation for both parties involved. The students get recognition for their achievements and the schools and teachers get credit for leading them in the right direction academically.

Teacher Lapel Pins Acknowledge Star Educators

Award lapel pins help identify distinguished educators and set an example for other teachers and professors in schools and colleges worldwide. Often die struck, these items include personal information about the award. Simulated gemstones signify years of service and their antiqued finish is classic and appropriate for both males and females.

Cloisonne lapel pins and soft enamel lapel pins are also very popular. Because they resemble fine jewelry, teachers feel honored to wear them on their clothing each and every day of the schoolyear. Personal and memorable, the education lapel pins draw attention wherever they go.

Notable Symbols Add to Education Lapel Pin Designs

Lapel pins in the shape of computers, pencils, paper, and even apples bring to mind education. These are all great symbols to incorporate into your custom design. You can use the school lapel pins to promote knowledge and help bring awareness of the importance of education for the growth and development of people of all ages. This is especially important for fundraising events where schools depend on donations from the public.

If you are an academic institute looking for a way to appeal to your students and faculty, consider creating custom lapel pins in whatever size, shape, style, and color that appeals most to you. You can start the process by filling out our free quote form online or by calling 1-800-480-6822 or emailing info@lapelpinsrus.com today.

Kids? Education: A Way to Brim the Child with Knowledge

“Education would be much more effective if its purpose was to ensure that by the time they leave school every boy and girl should know how much they do not know, and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it”. William Haley predicted the future of education years ago. Most people would agree with the fact of that education is the key to a better life, but many children are still not going to school even though it stands as a fundamental right. The right to free education as directed by the Government of India, still remains as a right and has not been put to use by several children in the rural areas of India.

Visit the markets or stand at the bus stops on an afternoon. Despite the crowd and the noise, the streets are busy with children running behind vehicles and carrying luggage to earn money for their livelihood.

Children who are working on the street are all supposed to be in school getting education instead of making a quick buck at the bus station. Education is not a cup of tea for common man as it is too costly. Often, the children are forced to work because their parents cannot afford education as it is too much costly. It therefore becomes easy for them to refuse, to send them to school.

“I was on my way to a school, but then one day my father said I shouldn’t go again,” said a 12-year old boy. “I was still going even though he said I should stop. So, he tried using the cane to stop me. My mom, who was interested in my education, took me to her mother’s home in order to help me pursue my education. Then my mom died, leaving me alone. So, when my mom died, I went back to my father’s home. Then, my father denied me, so I moved to my brother’s place. Then, my brother too went to a place in order to get some money for my education.”

Other children too have similar stories. “My mom is not doing anything, she has no money,” said a 14 year old boy. “I don’t know my dad. When it comes to chop money, my mom says she has no money. She used to manage to pay my fees, but later she couldn’t do anything, so I had to drop from school and I’m now working here in the station.”

The Indian government is making education free then there would be no more school fees, so education should be affordable for these poor children whose parent can’t afford education. But many teachers of Primary school still say that many children are still not coming because the cost of uniforms, notebooks and pencils is too much.

“Because of poverty, some of them can’t get the means to them. Some of them because of school uniforms, some of them exercise books, [one time] the child said she had no school uniform so she can’t come to school again. They drop out. Some of them drop out saying they are going to learn because they can’t afford the fee for a school here.” With education becoming too costly these days the common man is not able to afford the education only high class people will able to get the education.

This article has been posted by a school guide of OnlineSchoolAdmissions.Com, who also provides free of cost counseling to parents on school admissions. A visit to the site lets parents know about the apeejay school Delhi or ardee school delhi of their choice.
